Support of the Texas Lions Camp:

Texas Lions Camp is a residential camping facility for children with physical disabilities, Type 1 Diabetes, and cancer. The camp is located on over 500 acres in the beautiful Texas Hill Country and is designed to introduce the “can do” philosophy to children dealing with special medical conditions. Children with special needs from all over the state of Texas are invited to attend one of the eight weeks, which we hope will become one of their life-long childhood memories. This is a week designed for fun, exploration, and challenge.

 

Support of the Lions Club International Foundation:

Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is the charitable funding arm of Lions Clubs International. LCIF is lions helping lions serve others. It’s the only Lions foundation that serves the entire world and the nearly 1.35 million Lions. Working with Lions, LCIF prevents blindness. It provides food and clothing to victims of natural disasters. It also gives youth the tools to succeed through Lions-Quest, empowers the disabled through vocational training, and promotes health by equipping clinics and hospitals. LCIF is an efficient and effective charity.

 

Support of the Texas Lions Foundation:

The Texas Lions Foundation was formed by and for the Lions Clubs of Texas in order to provide grants for Humanitarian & Disaster Relief Purposes. Funds for these grants come from Lions and Lions Clubs in Texas who make contributions to the Texas Lions Foundation or have conducted fund raising events specifically to benefit the Foundation.

 

Support of the Lions Sight & Tissue Foundation:

The Lions Sight & Tissue Foundation provides the “Gift of Sight” for thousands of children and adults in North Texas; and promotes vision worldwide. Required funds are contributed by Lions and Lions Clubs of District 2-X1 Its projects receive support from LCIF, Lens Crafters, Wal-Mart & Sam’s Club Foundations, Professional Optical Supply Inc. etc. LS&TF’s “Free Vision & Eye Clinic Projects” provide free eye-checkup and free eyeglasses to low income children and senior citizens. It is also associated with Transplant Service Center (of UT Southwestern Center at Dallas) that serves as a Bank for skin and cornea transplant.

 

Support of the Leader Dogs for the Blind:

Since founding in 1939, to enhance the lives of blind and visually impaired individuals, over 13,000 people have experienced increased independence through the use of their Leader Dog. All services provided are completely free of charge.

 

Support of Camp New Horizons:

District 2-X1 in partnership with American Diabetes Association hold Day Camps, twice a year during the summer, for children with juvenile diabetes to educate treatment and efficient management of diabetes.

 

Support of the Lions World Services for the Blind:

LWSB, Little Rock, Arkansas is the most comprehensive adult rehabilitation center in the world to prepare the people, blind or visually impaired from all over the globe, by giving them required independent living skills, vocational training, vision rehabilitation clinic & training, assist in technology learning, job placement, college preparatory program etc. and help them to build a “new life”. Its 13 vocational courses prepare them for job opportunities in the real business world. Founded in 1947, and accredited by the National Accreditation Council of Agencies Serving the Blind and Visually Impaired, LWSB served around 9000 individuals from US and 57 other countries.

 

Support of Sports Extravaganza:

This annual event involves the students, blind or visually impaired, ages 0-22, representing about 55 school districts in the State of Texas and also from far away states like Colorado and New Mexico. Sports Extravaganza is aimed at lowering the barriers the blind or visually impaired youngsters encounter in physical activities and athletic events. The blind or visually impaired students compete in specially designed events such as 25/50/100 meter dashes, 200/400 meter run, standing/running long jump, shot-put, discus, softball throw, 25 meter walk, wheelchair obstacle course, tennis ball throw, beep baseball, goal-ball, golf hit, archery etc. Organized and sponsored by Region 10 Educational Service Center; Lions clubs from District 2-X1 and 2-E2; Dallas Association of Blind, local corporations, businesses, Irving ISD, TWU, individuals etc. this event has grown from 40 students in 1999 to over 200 athletes registered in 2005.
